Our mission is to shift communities from fragmented health interventions to integrated, whole-person strategies. In Southeast Washington, DC, View Strong demonstrates how this comprehensive approach creates real impact.
Alabama
We collaborate with communities to tackle the interconnected social, economic, and environmental drivers of health. Our Alabama work builds on this foundation through an expanding partnership with the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Live HealthSmart Alabama initiative.

We launched The Interrupt in Washington, DC for its unique position in the Nation's Capital, where we can demonstrate community-driven health solutions in a setting where policy and practice intersect.

Transforming community health in Southeast DC
In Ward 8, health disparities run deep. At Washington View, a community of 3,000 residents, these barriers are faced daily.
The area has the city's highest diabetes rate—nearly 20% of residents—and just one grocery store serves 75,000 people. Access to stable employment and healthcare remains scarce.
View Strong, powered by The Interrupt, is changing that through coordinated action:
- Food access: Fresh fruits and vegetables delivered directly to residents
- Health services: Wellness visits, screenings, and health education through community partnerships
- Workforce development: Training programs and career pathways to living-wage jobs
- Housing stability: Support for homeownership and long-term security
Rather than addressing one issue at a time, View Strong takes an integrated, resident-centered approach—weaving together food access, workforce development, housing, physical activity, and healthcare into a coordinated ecosystem built with and for Washington View residents.

Live HealthSmart Alabama
Expanding whole health across Alabama
Across Alabama—especially in rural and underserved communities—residents face barriers such as limited healthcare access, fewer nearby clinics, and challenges accessing healthy food, transportation, and stable housing.
These gaps contribute to higher rates of chronic disease, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
Since 2022, we have partnered with UAB's Live HealthSmart Alabama to demonstrate how whole-health strategies create lasting change:
- Community-based screenings provide early detection and preventive care
- Partnership with Uber Health removes transportation barriers to medical appointments and grocery stores
- Collaboration with Alabama Power improves lighting and infrastructure for safer, more walkable communities
Together, The Interrupt and UAB are proving that community-driven, whole-health strategies can create lasting change—one neighborhood at a time.
